Diary of a Road Trip: St. Louis to Denver

Day 3 - St. Louis to Denver
     Miles: 843
     Hours: 13 (much fewer
     stops today as there was
     literally nothing in all of
     Kansas that could entice
us to get off the highway)
     Stayed with: Denise
     (A friend from high school's
     mother)
States: 3 - MO, KS, and
     CO

Crossed into Mountain Time!

Discovered that Kansas is equal parts as much of a cliche as you'd think and not as much of a cliche as you'd think.  It is super flat, but only on the western half, the eastern half was surprisingly hilly.  We saw some oil pumps - that was pretty cool.  There are a lot of billboards for Oz (I think it was a wine company...), cattle are everywhere, and I was right to avoid the rest of the state like the plague after having one hospital there.

We hit quite the milestone in Kansas - the exact middle of the country.  Of course we had to stop to take some pictures...

Upon exiting Kansas we drove through a black hole (literally a cloud that came all the way down to meet the earth pictured above) into Colorado - our favorite state.

First and foremost because we stumbled upon a magical Starbucks that appeared out of nowhere after driving through hundreds of miles of nothing.  In Denver we ate at a lovely pretentious restaurant called Potager (pronounced 'protege').

We then stayed at the most wonderful home (or as we termed it - a magical resort) where we were treated to the most delicious breakfast, only a small part of which is pictured here.
